Place the long-grain white rice in a fine mesh strainer. Rinse under cold running water for about 2-3 minutes, or until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps prevent the rice from becoming gummy.

In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add 0.5 tsp of salt to the water to enhance the flavor.

Once the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed, remove the saucepan from heat. Let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes to allow the rice to steam.

After the resting period, uncover the rice and fluff it gently with a fork. If desired, stir in 1 tablespoon of olive oil or butter for added richness. Season with fresh herbs to taste before serving.
