Preparation

1

Prepare the Ingredients

Gather all the ingredients listed above. Make sure the cheeses are sliced and the basil is finely chopped.

Assemble the Sandwich

2

Butter the Bread

Spread 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.

3

Season the Butter

Sprinkle garlic powder evenly over the buttered side of the bread slices.

4

Layer the Cheese

On the unbuttered side of two slices, layer one slice of sharp cheddar cheese, one slice of Gruyère cheese, and a sprinkle of chopped fresh basil. Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side facing out.

Grill the Sandwich

5

Heat the Pan

Place a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and allow it to warm up for about 2-3 minutes.

6

Grill the Sandwiches

Once the skillet is hot, place the assembled sandwiches in the pan. Grill for 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown and crispy.

7

Flip and Finish

Carefully flip the sandwiches using a spatula and grill the other side for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese has melted and the bread is golden brown.

Serving

8

Slice and Serve

Remove the grilled cheese sandwiches from the skillet, let them cool for a minute, then slice diagonally and serve warm.
