Filling and Sauce

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your brick oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

    Cook the Manicotti Shells

Cook the manicotti shells according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside to cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Filling

In a large bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  4. 4

    Stuff the Shells

Carefully fill each manicotti shell with the cheese mixture using a piping bag or a spoon.

  5. 5

    Assemble the Dish

Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Place the stuffed manicotti shells in a single layer on top of the sauce.

  6. 6

    Add Sauce and Cheese

Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the stuffed shells. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.

  7. 7

    Add Meatballs or Sausage (Optional)

If desired, add meatballs or sausage pieces on top of the cheese.

  8. 8

    Bake

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

  9. 9

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, then serve hot.
