Terms of Service

Welcome to Pekin the Chef. These Terms govern your use of pekinthechef.com (the "Site"), our recipes, our weekly newsletter, and related services (together, the "Services"), operated by Lawson Technologies ("Pekin," "we," "us"). By using the Services you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Services.

1. Using the Services

You may use the Services for personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:

• scrape, crawl, or bulk-download the Site or its recipes, or use them to train machine learning models, without our written permission;
• copy, republish, or sell our content except as allowed in Section 3;
• interfere with the Site's operation or security, or attempt to gain unauthorized access;
• post unlawful, harassing, hateful, misleading, or spam content;
• use the Services in a way that violates any law.

We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these Terms.

2. Accounts

If you create an account, keep your login details secure and give us accurate information. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use.

3. Our content and your license

The Site, including recipes, text, photos, videos, design, logos, and the Pekin the Chef name and wordmark, is owned by Pekin or its licensors and protected by copyright and other laws.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to view and use the content for personal use. You may share a link to a recipe, or quote a short excerpt with clear credit and a link back to the original page. Anything beyond that, including reposting full recipes or photos, requires our written permission.

Pekin recipes are inspired by restaurant dishes and are independently developed home-cooking adaptations. They are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by any restaurant or brand named. All third-party names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.

4. Comments, ratings, and your submissions

If you post comments, ratings, or other content ("Submissions"):

• You keep ownership of your Submissions.
• You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual license to host, display, reproduce, and distribute them on and in connection with the Services, including in recipe structured data such as rating summaries.
• You confirm you have the right to post them and that they don't infringe anyone's rights or break the law.
• Submissions are your own opinions and not ours.

We may moderate, hide, or remove Submissions at our discretion, including those that are off-topic, abusive, promotional, or spam. Ratings are intended to reflect real cooking experience. We may discount or remove ratings that appear manipulated.

5. Recipes, food safety, and allergies

Recipes are provided for general information. Cooking involves risk. You are responsible for food safety, including safe handling, cooking temperatures, and storage, and for checking ingredients against your own allergies and dietary needs. Cook times, yields, and nutrition information, where shown, are estimates and may vary. We are not responsible for any illness, allergic reaction, injury, or damage resulting from using a recipe.

6. Newsletter

By subscribing you agree to receive our weekly newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. See the Privacy Policy for how we handle your information.

7. Affiliate links, sponsors, and partners

Some links on the Site are affiliate links, including through the Amazon Associates Program. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Sponsored content and partner placements are labelled. Purchases you make on third-party sites are between you and that merchant. We don't sell or fulfill those products and are not responsible for their prices, availability, quality, or policies.

8. Third-party sites

The Services may link to or rely on third-party sites and services. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content or practices.

9. Disclaimers

The Services are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don't guarantee the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that recipes will turn out a particular way. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pekin and its owners, employees, and contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Services. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Services will not exceed CAD $100. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify Pekin against claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your Submissions, your misuse of the Services, or your breach of these Terms.

12. Copyright complaints

If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with: a description of the work, the URL of the material, your contact details, a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorized, and a statement that your information is accurate and you are the rights holder or authorized to act for them. We will review and respond promptly.

13. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. The latest version will be posted here with its effective date. Continued use of the Services after changes means you accept them. We may also change or discontinue parts of the Services at any time.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the courts located in British Columbia, and you consent to their jurisdiction, except where local consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.

15. General

These Terms and the Privacy Policy are our entire agreement with you about the Services. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision isn't a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may transfer ours.
