Prepare the Mussels
Rinse the New Zealand green shell mussels under cold water to remove any dirt or debris. Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped.

Steam the Mussels
In a large pot, add about an inch of water and bring to a boil. Place the mussels in a steamer basket and cover the pot. Steam the mussels for about 5-7 minutes or until they have opened up.

Serve
Once the mussels are cooked, remove them from the steamer and place them on a serving platter. Spoon the onion-cilantro-garlic-lime mixture over the mussels. Serve immediately.
