Method

Preparation Steps

1

Making the Buns

1. In a large bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix warm water and olive oil. Gradually add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

2

Preparing the Filling

2. In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground vegan protein. Stir in soy sauce, sriracha, garlic powder, ginger powder, and chopped green onions. Cook until heated through, about 5-7 minutes.

3

Preparing the Sauce

3. In a small bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, and water until smooth. Set aside.

4

Assembling the Buns

4. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, flatten it slightly, and add a spoonful of the filling in the center. Seal the buns by folding the edges over the filling and pinching to secure.

5

Cooking the Buns

5. Steam the filled buns for about 15-20 minutes until fluffy. Allow to cool slightly.

6

Serving

6. Serve the buns topped with the sweet savory sauce and extra chopped green onions.
