Pizza Dough and Toppings
Method
Preparation and Baking
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- 4
Shape the Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer to a pizza peel or baking sheet if not using a stone.
- 5
Add Toppings
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the pizza base. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute evenly on top. Season with salt and pepper.
- 6
Bake
Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 7
Garnish and Serve
Remove from the oven and scatter fresh basil leaves over the top. Let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
