Crispy Calamari Ingredients
Method
Crispy Calamari Directions
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
In a bowl, soak the calamari rings in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes. This will tenderize the squid and add flavor.
- 2
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat the Calamari
Remove the calamari from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dredge each ring in the flour mixture until fully coated.
- 5
Fry the Calamari
Carefully place the coated calamari rings in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
