Method
Bread Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 5
Shape the Boule
Once risen, punch down the dough and shape it into a round boule. Place it on a floured baking sheet.
- 6
Second Rise
Cover again and let it rise for another 30-60 minutes.
- 7
Preheat Oven
Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- 8
Bake the Bread
Bake the boule in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- 9
Cool Down
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
Butter Preparation
- 10
Prepare the Butter
While the bread cools, soften the unsalted butter at room temperature. Mix in sea salt and finely chopped fresh herbs to taste.
