Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the long-grain rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.

  2. 2

    Prepare Optional Ingredients

If using optional flavors, chop the onion and mince the garlic. Measure out the butter, olive oil, and herbs.

Cooking the Rice

  1. 3

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a rolling boil. If using olive oil or butter, add it to the water at this stage.

  2. 4

    Add Rice and Salt

Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed rice and 1 tsp of salt. Stir gently to ensure the rice is evenly distributed.

  3. 5

    Cook the Rice

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and all the water has been absorbed.

  4. 6

    Add Aromatics

If using, in the last 5 minutes of cooking, add the minced garlic and chopped onion to the pot. Stir to combine and cover again.

Final Touches

  1. 7

    Fluff the Rice

Once the rice is cooked, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Then, use a fork to fluff the rice gently.

  2. 8

    Add Fresh Herbs

If desired, stir in the fresh herbs before serving for added flavor and freshness.
