Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let it Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 7
Shape the Dough
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into two equal parts. Roll out each part on a floured surface into your desired pizza shape and thickness.
- 8
Add Sauce
Spread ½ cup of tomato sauce evenly over each pizza base, leaving a small border around the edges.
- 9
Add Cheese and Toppings
Tear fresh mozzarella into small pieces and distribute evenly over the sauce. Add fresh basil leaves, and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
- 10
Drizzle Olive Oil
Drizzle olive oil over the top of the pizza for added flavor.
- 11
Bake the Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the hot oven (or onto the pizza stone) and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 12
Slice and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve hot.
