Marinara Sauce

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Pasta

In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add a pinch of salt. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions, usually about 10-12 minutes, or until al dente.

  2. 2

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the penne pasta in a colander and set aside.

Making the Marinara Sauce

  1. 3

    Sauté the Garlic

In the same pot used for the pasta, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 4

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Pour in the crushed tomatoes, then add the dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  3. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the marinara sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Combining and Serving

  1. 6

    Mix Pasta with Sauce

Add the drained penne pasta into the marinara sauce. Toss gently to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.

  2. 7

    Serve

Serve the penne marinara hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh basil leaves.
