Shoestring French Fries Ingredients
Method
Cooking Directions
- 1
Prepare the Potatoes
Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into thin, shoestring-sized strips, approximately 1/8 inch thick.
- 2
Soak the Potatoes
Place the cut potato strips in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
- 3
Dry the Potatoes
Drain the soaked potatoes and lay them out on a clean kitchen towel. Pat them dry to remove as much moisture as possible.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) over medium heat.
- 5
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add a handful of the dried potato strips to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Season
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste.
- 7
Repeat
Repeat the frying process with the remaining potato strips until all are cooked.
- 8
Serve
Serve the shoestring fries hot as a side dish or snack.
