Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and togarashi seasoning. Gradually add cold water while whisking until the batter is smooth and slightly thick.
Cooking
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Fry the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, letting the excess drip off. Carefully place the battered rings into the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
