Onion Ring Tempura Ingredients
Method
Preparation Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel and slice the onions into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
- 2
Make the Tempura Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, togarashi seasoning, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add ice-cold water until the batter is smooth but still slightly thick.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the tempura batter, allowing excess batter to drip off.
- 5
Fry the Onion Rings
Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried onion rings with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with additional togarashi seasoning for sprinkling.
