Method
Prepare the Patties
Mix Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the Angus ground chuck beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
Form Patties
Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.
Cook the Patties
Cook the Patties
Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until a nice crust forms. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
Prepare the Toppings
Slice the Vegetables
While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and red onion into thin rings. Rinse the lettuce leaves and pat them dry.
Assemble the Burgers
Toast the Buns (Optional)
If desired, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
Layer the Ingredients
Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Place a cooked patty with melted cheese on top, followed by lettuce leaves, tomato slices, and red onion rings. Top with the other half of the bun.
