Method

Prepare the Dry Ingredients

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Use a whisk to thoroughly mix the dry ingredients until well combined.

Prepare the Wet Ingredients

  1. 2

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vegetable oil until smooth and well combined.

Combine and Bake

  1. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix. The batter should be slightly lumpy.

  2. 4

    Preheat and Bake

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan with butter or cooking spray. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Serve

  1. 5

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, allow the cornbread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Cut into squares and serve warm with butter on the side.
