Method

French Toast Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Custard

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Soak the Bread

Dip each slice of French bread into the custard mixture, allowing it to soak for about 30 seconds on each side. Make sure the bread is well coated but not falling apart.

  3. 3

    Cook the French Toast

Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small amount of butter. Cook the soaked French bread slices for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

Churro Coating

  1. 4

    Prepare the Coating

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. In a separate bowl, mix together the cane sugar and cinnamon.

  2. 5

    Coat the French Toast

Once the French toast is cooked, immediately brush or dip each slice into the melted butter, then coat generously with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Mixed Berry Compote

  1. 6

    Cook the Berries

In a medium saucepan, combine the mixed berries, sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat until the berries start to break down and the mixture thickens, about 10-15 minutes.

  2. 7

    Serve the Compote

Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving over the churro French toast.
