Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined (the batter will be thin).

  5. 5

    Bake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool Cakes

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to cool completely on wire racks.

Ganache Preparation

  1. 7

    Heat Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.

  2. 8

    Combine with Chocolate

Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Frost Cake

Once the cake layers have cooled completely, place one layer on a serving plate. Pour half of the ganache over the top. Place the second layer on top and pour the remaining ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  2. 10

    Serve

Allow the ganache to set for about 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
