1. Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

2. Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes until well combined.

4. Incorporate Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until fully incorporated. The batter will be thin.

5. Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

6. Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

7. Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the unsweetened cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with whole milk, mixing until smooth.

8. Add Flavor

Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until fully combined.

9. Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
