Method

Preparing the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the meat mixture into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties, about ¾ inch thick. Use your thumb to create a small indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.

Cooking the Burger Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or in the skillet. Cook for about 4–5 minutes on one side until browned, then flip and cook for an additional 3–4 minutes for medium doneness.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place two slices of American cheese on each patty and cover to allow the cheese to melt.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Toast the Buns

While the patties are cooking, you can toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.

  2. 7

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese. Top with tomato slices, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Place the top half of the bun on the burger.
