Method

Tuna Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Tuna

In a bowl, whisk together the olive oil, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper until well combined. Place the Ahi tuna steaks in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Pan

Heat a non-stick skillet or cast-iron pan over high heat. Once hot, drizzle a small amount of olive oil to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

    Sear the Tuna

Remove the tuna steaks from the marinade and let the excess drip off. Sprinkle sesame seeds on both sides of the tuna steaks. Place the tuna in the hot pan and sear for about 1-2 minutes on each side for rare, or longer depending on your desired doneness.

Garnish and Serving

  1. 4

    Plate the Tuna

Once seared, remove the tuna steaks from the pan and let them rest for a minute. Slice the tuna into thin strips.

  2. 5

    Garnish and Serve

Arrange the sliced tuna on a plate. Garnish with sliced green onions, wasabi, and pickled ginger. Serve with lime wedges on the side.
