Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s hot enough for baking the potatoes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a towel.

  3. 3

    Prick the Potatoes

Using a fork, prick each potato several times all over to allow steam to escape during baking.

  4. 4

    Season the Potatoes

Rub the potatoes with a little butter, and sprinkle salt all over them to enhance the flavor.

Baking

  1. 5

    Bake the Potatoes

Place the prepared potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and a fork easily pierces through the flesh.

Toppings Preparation

  1. 6

    Cook the Bacon

While the potatoes are baking, cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Chop into small pieces.

  2. 7

    Chop the Green Onions

Thinly slice the green onions, separating the white parts from the green tops.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Prepare the Loaded Potatoes

Once the potatoes are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Cut each potato lengthwise and gently push the ends to open them up.

  2. 9

    Add Toppings

Add butter, a generous sprinkle of cheddar cheese, cooked bacon, a dollop of sour cream, and top with sliced green onions. Season with black pepper to taste.
