Shrimp Preparation

Breading Mixture

Method

Shrimp Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Shrimp

In a large bowl, combine the peeled and deveined shrimp with lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Toss well to ensure all shrimp are coated. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Breading Mixture

  1. 2

    Prepare the Breading Stations

In a shallow dish, place the all-purpose flour. In a second shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk. In a third shallow dish, combine the panko breadcrumbs, cornstarch, paprika, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.

  2. 3

    Bread the Shrimp

Remove the marinated shrimp from the refrigerator. Dredge each shrimp in flour, shaking off the excess. Dip into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Place the breaded shrimp on a plate.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully add the breaded shrimp to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
