Method

Preparing Sticky Rice

  1. 1

    Soaking the Rice

Rinse 1 cup of glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in enough water to cover it for at least 4 hours or overnight. This step is crucial for achieving the perfect sticky texture.

  2. 2

    Steaming the Rice

After soaking, drain the rice and place it in a steamer lined with cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel. Steam the rice for about 30-40 minutes, or until it's tender and sticky. Ensure to check periodically and add a little water to the steamer if it starts to dry out.

Making Coconut Sauce

  1. 3

    Combining Ingredients

In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of coconut milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Do not let it boil.

  2. 4

    Mixing with Rice

Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and pour half of the coconut sauce over it. Stir gently to combine and let it sit for about 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Preparing Fresh Mango

  1. 5

    Slicing the Mango

While the rice is resting, peel the ripe mangoes and slice them into thin strips. Arrange the slices on a serving plate.

Assembling the Dish

  1. 6

    Serving

To serve, spoon the sticky rice onto a plate, drizzle with the remaining coconut sauce, and top with sliced mango. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for added flavor and crunch.
