Method

Preparation of Plantains

  1. 1

    Peel the Plantains

Using a sharp knife, cut off the ends of each green plantain and make a shallow slit along the length of the plantain. Carefully peel the skin away from the flesh of the plantain.

  2. 2

    Slice the Plantains

Cut the peeled plantains into 1-inch thick slices. Make sure they are uniform to ensure even cooking.

Cooking the Plantains

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until hot but not smoking.

  2. 4

    Fry the Plantains

Carefully add the plantain slices to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown.

  3. 5

    Remove and Drain

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried plantains from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  4. 6

    Season the Plantains

While the plantains are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, garlic powder, and ground black pepper to taste.
