Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Add Hibiscus Flowers

Once the water is boiling, add the dried hibiscus flowers to the pot. Stir gently.

  3. 3

    Simmer

Lower the heat and let the hibiscus flowers simmer in the water for about 20 minutes.

  4. 4

    Strain the Mixture

After simmering, remove the pot from the heat. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain the mixture into a large bowl or pitcher, discarding the hibiscus flowers.

  5. 5

    Sweeten the Drink

While the hibiscus tea is still warm, add 1 cup of sugar and stir until fully dissolved.

  6. 6

    Add Mint and Lemon Juice

Add the fresh mint leaves and lemon juice to the strained hibiscus liquid, stirring well to combine.

  7. 7

    Chill

Let the drink cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours until chilled.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve the Drink

Serve the chilled bissap in glasses over ice cubes if desired. Garnish with additional lemon slices and fresh mint leaves for decoration.
