Gnocchi

Method

Making the Gnocchi

1

Prepare Potatoes

Boil the russet potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and let cool slightly. Peel the potatoes and mash them until smooth.

2

Make Dough

In a bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, egg, and salt. Mix until a dough forms, adding more flour if necessary. The dough should be soft but not sticky.

3

Shape Gnocchi

Divide the dough into 4 pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope about ½ inch thick. Cut into 1-inch pieces. Optionally, use a fork to create ridges.

4

Cook Gnocchi

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi in batches. They are done when they float to the top, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon.

Making the Meat Sauce

5

Cook Meat

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until translucent. Add ground beef and cook until browned.

6

Simmer Sauce

Stir in crushed tomatoes and Italian seasoning. Season with salt and black pepper. Simmer on low for 20-25 minutes.

Combine and Serve

7

Mix Gnocchi and Sauce

Toss the cooked gnocchi with the meat sauce until well coated. Serve hot.
