For the Buttermilk Fried Chicken

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the chicken pieces and buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Flour Mixture

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring it is well coated. Shake off excess flour.

  5. 5

    Fry the Chicken

Carefully place the coated chicken pieces in the hot oil. Fry in batches, if necessary, for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried chicken from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with coleslaw on the side.
