Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Preparation

1

Prepare the Nut Filling

In a food processor, combine walnuts, almonds, and ground cinnamon. Pulse until finely chopped, but not a paste. Set aside.

2

Prepare the Phyllo Dough

Thaw the phyllo dough according to package instructions. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

3

Assemble the Baklava

Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each sheet with melted butter. After 8 layers, spread a thin layer of the nut mixture. Repeat this process, alternating layers of phyllo and nut mixture, finishing with 8 layers of phyllo on top. Cut the assembled baklava into diamond or square shapes.

4

Bake the Baklava

Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.

5

Prepare the Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

6

Finish the Baklava

Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup evenly over the baklava. Allow it to cool completely before serving.
