Sopapilla Ingredients
Method
Preparation Instructions
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and vegetable oil. Gradually add the warm water while mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- 2
Rest the Dough
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
- 3
Roll Out the Dough
After resting, roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into 2-inch squares or triangles.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (about 375°F or 190°C).
- 5
Fry the Sopapillas
Carefully drop the cut dough pieces into the hot oil, frying a few at a time. Fry until they puff up and turn golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the sopapillas warm, drizzled with honey on top or on the side for dipping.
