Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Soak the Beans

Rinse the whole black beans under cold water. Place them in a large bowl, cover with water, and let soak overnight or for at least 6-8 hours.

  2. 2

    Drain and Rinse

After soaking, drain the beans and rinse them again under cold water.

  3. 3

    Cook the Beans

In a large pot, combine the soaked beans with 4 cups of fresh water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 1-1.5 hours, or until the beans are tender.

  4. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a separate skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cumin, and sauté for an additional 2 minutes.

  5. 5

    Combine and Season

Once the beans are tender, drain any excess liquid (if desired) and add them to the skillet with the sautéed onion and garlic. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir to combine and heat through for about 5 minutes.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from heat and serve warm as a side dish or as a base for other recipes.
