Cake and Fillings
Method
Preparation
Bake the Cake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).
Bake
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool the Cakes
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Prepare the Milk Chocolate Buttercream
In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until combined. Melt milk chocolate chips and let cool slightly before adding to the butter mixture. Beat until smooth.
Prepare the Ganache
In a small saucepan, heat heavy cream over medium heat until steaming. Remove from heat and add chopped dark chocolate. Let sit for a few minutes, then stir until smooth.
Assemble the Torte
Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of milk chocolate buttercream on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides with the remaining buttercream. Pour ganache over the top, letting it drip down the sides.
Serve
Slice and serve the triple chocolate torte. Enjoy!
