Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin).

  4. 4

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  5. 5

    Cool the Cake

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.

  6. 6

    Prepare Frosting

In a saucepan, combine evaporated milk, sugar, butter, and egg yolks. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, coconut, and pecans. Let cool.

  7. 7

    Assemble the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting. Repeat with the next layer. Top with the final layer and spread the remaining frosting on the top and sides.

  8. 8

    Serve

Slice and serve the cake. Enjoy your homemade German Chocolate Cake!
