Bread Stix

Method

Making the Bread Stix

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and Italian seasoning. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape the Stix

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle. Cut into strips (about 1 inch wide and 5 inches long).

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Place the strips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Add Cheese

Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese generously over the risen stix.

  8. 8

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Making the Garlic Butter

  1. 9

    Melt the Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat.

  2. 10

    Add Garlic

Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 11

    Finish the Garlic Butter

Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley and salt. Set aside to cool slightly.
