Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, warm the milk to about 110°F (43°C). Sprinkle the active dry yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar over the milk. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, salt, and the remaining sugar. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Gradually add the remaining flour (1 cup) until the dough is soft but not sticky. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  1. 5

    Prepare Cinnamon Sugar

In a small bowl, mix together 1 cup of granulated sugar and 3 tablespoons of ground cinnamon. Set aside.

Baking

  1. 6

    Shape and Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into strips and then twist each strip before placing them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  2. 7

    Coat with Cinnamon Sugar

Once the strips are on the baking sheet, brush them lightly with melted butter and then sprinkle generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture.

  3. 8

    Bake the Stix

Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.

Icing Preparation

  1. 9

    Make Vanilla Icing

In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and creamy.
