Method

Preparing the Steak

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Sprinkle the flat iron steak evenly with salt and black pepper on both sides.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil and allow it to heat until shimmering.

  3. 3

    Cook the Steak

Place the seasoned steak in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is reached.

  4. 4

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Making Mashed Potatoes

  1. 5

    Boil the Potatoes

Peel and cube the potatoes, then place them in a pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 6

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, and salt, then mash until smooth and creamy.

Preparing Fresh Vegetables

  1. 7

    Blanch the Vegetables

In a separate pot, bring water to a boil. Add the green beans and carrots, and blanch for about 3-4 minutes until bright and tender-crisp.

  2. 8

    Drain and Serve

Drain the vegetables and immediately transfer them to an ice bath to stop cooking. Drain again and set aside.

Serving the Dish

  1. 9

    Plate the Dish

On a plate, serve a portion of mashed potatoes, topped with the sliced steak. Arrange the fresh seasonal vegetables on the side.

  2. 10

    Add Sauce or Butter

Choose your preferred sauce or butter option and drizzle or dollop on top of the steak before serving.
