Fried Chicken and Biscuits

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Marinate Chicken

In a bowl, soak the chicken breasts in buttermilk for at least 1 hour or overnight in the refrigerator.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Dry Mix

In a separate bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Fry the Chicken

Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Dredge the marinated chicken in the dry mix, ensuring it is coated thoroughly. Fry the chicken for about 6-8 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and let drain on paper towels.

  4. 4

    Cook the Prosciutto

In the same skillet, add the prosciutto slices and cook until crispy. Remove and set aside.

  5. 5

    Make the Biscuits

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Add milk and melted butter, mixing until just combined. Roll out and cut into rounds, placing on a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden.

  6. 6

    Prepare the Gravy

In a saucepan, use the leftover oil from frying (drain excess fat) and add flour to make a roux. Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  7. 7

    Assemble the Dish

Cut the biscuits in half, layer with fried chicken, crispy prosciutto, and cheddar cheese, then smother with country gravy.
