Tequenos
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and water together. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- 2
Roll Out the Dough
Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each ball out into thin rectangles, about 4x2 inches.
- 3
Wrap the Cheese
Place a mozzarella cheese stick at one end of the rolled dough and carefully wrap it, sealing the edges to prevent the cheese from melting out.
- 4
Fry the Tequenos
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the wrapped cheese. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Make the Avocado Dip
In a small bowl, mash the avocado and mix in lime juice. Season with salt to taste.
- 6
Serve
Serve the crispy tequenos hot with avocado dip and marinara sauce on the side.
