Cooking Instructions

1

Soak the Beans

Rinse the dried beans under cold water and place them in a large bowl. Cover with water and let soak overnight. Alternatively, you can use the quick soak method by boiling the beans for 2 minutes, then letting them sit for 1 hour.

2

Cook the Beans

Drain the soaked beans and transfer them to a pot. Add 4 cups of fresh water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 1 to 2 hours, or until the beans are tender. Check periodically and add more water if necessary.

3

Sauté the Aromatics

In a separate skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cumin, stirring for another minute until fragrant.

4

Combine and Season

Once the beans are cooked, drain any excess water and add them to the skillet with the sautéed onions and garlic. Season with salt and black pepper, stirring to combine. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

5

Serve

Garnish with chopped cilantro if desired. Serve warm as a side dish or as part of a main meal.
