Baklava Ingredients

Method

Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Nut Filling

In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

  2. 2

    Melt the Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Layer the Phyllo Dough

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). On a clean surface, lay out one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it lightly with melted butter. Repeat this process, layering about 5 sheets in total.

  4. 4

    Add Nut Filling

Sprinkle a portion of the nut filling evenly over the layered phyllo dough. Then, sprinkle a handful of chocolate chips over the nuts.

  5. 5

    Roll the Baklava

Carefully roll the phyllo dough from one end to the other into a tight log. Brush the outside with melted butter and place it seam-side down on a greased baking sheet.

  6. 6

    Repeat Process

Repeat the layering and rolling process with the remaining phyllo dough, nut mixture, and chocolate chips until all ingredients are used.

  7. 7

    Bake the Nut Rolls

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Prepare the Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine the honey and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

  9. 9

    Soak the Baklava

Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over the rolls, allowing it to soak in.

  10. 10

    Cool and Serve

Let the nut rolls cool completely before slicing into pieces. Serve and enjoy your chocolate nut roll baklava!
