Cooking Instructions

1

Prepare the Beans

Rinse the pinto beans under cold water and remove any debris. Place the beans in a large pot and cover with 3 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 1-2 hours, or until the beans are tender.

2

Sauté the Aromatics

In a separate skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, stirring frequently to avoid burning.

3

Mash the Beans

Once the beans are cooked, drain them and reserve some of the cooking liquid. Add the beans to the skillet with the sautéed onions and garlic. Use a potato masher or fork to mash the beans to your desired consistency. If the mixture is too thick, add some reserved cooking liquid.

4

Season the Beans

Stir in the cumin, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until heated through. Adjust seasoning to taste.

5

Serve

Serve the refried beans warm as a side dish or as a filling for tacos, burritos, or nachos.
