Künefe Ingredients

Method

Künefe Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Syrup

In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for about 10 minutes until it thickens slightly. Add rose water, stir, and set aside to cool.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Dough

Melt the unsalted butter and mix it with a pinch of salt. Pour the melted butter over the shredded phyllo dough and mix well to coat the dough evenly.

  3. 3

    Assemble the Künefe

Divide the buttered dough into two equal parts. Press one half into the bottom of a pre-greased aluminum pan. Spread the mozzarella cheese evenly over the dough, then cover with the remaining dough, pressing down gently to compact it.

  4. 4

    Cook the Künefe

Cook the assembled Künefe on medium heat for about 10-15 minutes on one side until golden brown. Carefully flip it over using a plate and cook the other side for an additional 10-15 minutes until both sides are golden and crispy.

  5. 5

    Serve

Once cooked, remove the Künefe from the pan and pour the cooled syrup over it evenly. Let it soak for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with crushed pistachios.
