Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Water

Fill a large pot with water and add a tablespoon of salt. Bring the water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook the Spaghetti

Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander, reserving a cup of pasta water for later use.

Making the Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat the Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté the Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 6

    Add the Tomatoes and Seasoning

Pour in the crushed tomatoes, then add the fresh basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  4. 7

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce, tossing to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.

  5. 8

    Serve

Plate the spaghetti, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese, and garnish with additional fresh basil if desired.
