Method

Prepare the Brisket

  1. 1

    Season the Brisket

In a small bowl, mix together onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, and brown sugar. Rub the seasoning mixture all over the beef brisket.

  2. 2

    Sear the Brisket

In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat a small amount of oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the brisket on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  3. 3

    Cook the Brisket

Transfer the seared brisket to a slow cooker. Pour in the beef broth, ensuring the brisket is mostly covered. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the brisket is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

  4. 4

    Shred the Brisket

Once cooked, remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest for about 15 minutes. Shred the brisket using two forks.

Assemble the Stackers

  1. 5

    Prepare the Buns

Slice the buns in half and lightly toast them if desired.

  2. 6

    Stack the Ingredients

Layer shredded brisket onto the bottom half of each bun. Drizzle with barbecue sauce and add pickles, sliced onions, and cheddar cheese if using.

  3. 7

    Finish Assembly

Top each brisket layer with the other half of the bun. Serve immediately.
