Method

Dough Preparation

1

Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour and water. Mix until a smooth dough forms. If desired, add food coloring to create colored dough.

2

Knead the Dough

Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Let it rest covered with a damp cloth for 30 minutes.

Filling Preparation

3

Prepare Fillings

In a separate bowl, mix your chosen filling ingredients (red bean paste, chopped peanuts, sesame paste, and sugar) until well combined. You can adjust the sweetness based on your preference.

Forming Tang Yuan

4

Shape the Dumplings

Divide the rested dough into small pieces (about 1-inch balls). Flatten each piece in your palm and place about 1 tsp of filling in the center. Gather the edges of the dough around the filling and pinch to seal. Roll gently to form a smooth ball.

Cooking Tang Yuan

5

Boil Water

In a large pot, bring water to a boil over high heat.

6

Cook the Dumplings

Add the formed Tang Yuan to the boiling water. Cook until they float to the surface, which should take about 5-7 minutes. Once they float, allow them to cook for an additional 2 minutes.

7

Serve

Use a slotted spoon to remove the Tang Yuan from the pot. Serve them warm in sweet syrup or with a sprinkle of sesame seeds, if desired.
