Burger Components

Jalapeño Tomato Jam

Method

Jalapeño Tomato Jam

  1. 1

    Prepare the Jalapeño Tomato Jam

Start by preparing the jalapeño tomato jam. In a medium saucepan, combine chopped ripe tomatoes, chopped jalapeños, sugar, apple cider vinegar, and salt.

  2. 2

    Cook the Jam

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens.

  3. 3

    Cool and Store

Once thickened, remove from heat and let it cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Frites

  1. 4

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into thin strips to form frites.

  2. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the potato strips to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  4. 7

    Season

Sprinkle the fried potatoes with salt while they are still hot. Set aside.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 8

    Cook the Beef Patties

Form the ground beef into 4 equal patties and season with salt and pepper. Grill or pan-fry over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

  2. 9

    Melt the Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of gruyere cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

  3. 10

    Toast the Buns

While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the brioche buns on a grill or in a toaster.

  4. 11

    Assemble the Burger

Spread a generous amount of jalapeño tomato jam on the bottom half of each bun. Place the cooked beef patty with melted cheese on top, followed by a handful of mixed greens. Top with the other half of the bun.

  5. 12

    Serve

Serve the burgers hot with a side of crispy frites.
