Method
Preparation of Olive Salad
- 1
Combine Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the green olives, black olives, pickled vegetables, capers, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and dried oregano.
- 2
Add Dressing
Drizzle the red wine vinegar and olive oil over the olive mixture. Stir well to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
- 3
Marinate
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the olive salad marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
Assembling the Muffaletta
- 4
Slice the Bread
Take the muffuletta bread and slice it in half horizontally. If you prefer a quarter or half sandwich, you may slice accordingly.
- 5
Layer Meats and Cheeses
On the bottom half of the bread, layer the sliced salami, ham, mortadella, provolone, and Swiss cheese evenly.
- 6
Add Olive Salad
Spoon a generous amount of the marinated olive salad over the layer of meats and cheeses. Spread it out evenly.
- 7
Top with Bread
Place the top half of the bread back on the sandwich. Press down gently to help the ingredients meld together.
- 8
Wrap and Rest
Wrap the entire sandwich tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Let it rest for at least 30 minutes at room temperature or refrigerate for a few hours before serving.
