Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter or non-stick spray.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water into the batter until well combined. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add in the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk. Add in the vanilla extract and beat until smooth and fluffy.

  2. 9

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.

Serving Directions

  1. 10

    Serve the Cake

Slice the chocolate cake into wedges and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
