Bolognese Sauce

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring a generous amount of water to a boil.

  2. 2

    Add Salt

Once the water is boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt.

  3. 3

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  4. 4

    Drain

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti and set aside.

Preparing Bolognese Sauce

  1. 5

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery, cooking for about 5 minutes until softened.

  2. 6

    Add Garlic

Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.

  3. 7

    Brown the Meat

Increase the heat to medium-high, add the ground beef, and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.

  4. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Wine

Stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Bring to a simmer.

  5. 9

    Season the Sauce

Add dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. 10

    Finish the Sauce

If the sauce becomes too thick, add a splash of water. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Serving

  1. 11

    Combine and Serve

Toss the cooked spaghetti with the Bolognese sauce until well coated. Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese on top.
